Both the Perkins Vocational Act and the School-to-Work Opportunities Act have a new vision about preparation for work, including postsecondary education.  They use teaching "all aspects of an industry" (AAI) as a strategy to give students experience in the full range of possibilities in a career.  Instead of just a course in machine tooling, for example, a student

would learn about quality control, procuring supplies, precision instruments, managing a business, marketing, and global manufacturing trends.  A student in health sciences would learn more than how to be a laboratory technician.  She also would study health management and medical careers.
